Morrisseau Family Ties

Never-before-seen photo shows Norval Morrisseau with the Vadas family: from left Michele, Gabe, Kyle and Norval in Nanaimo, BC (Sept 2004). The Vadas' proved themselves to be outstanding caregivers over the years never losing Norval Morrisseau's trust. While Gabe came from humble beginnings by his own account, he and his wife Michele were solely responsible for Norval Morrisseau's health and well-being over the last two decades of the artist's life. A close bond developed from their family relationship. Norval Morrisseau loved the two boys, Robin and Kyle, treating them at all times as his own grandchildren. Frequently, they appeared as subjects in the artist's later works. Images of the Vadas family began to appear in Morrisseau's paintings immediately following Robin's birth in 1990.
